Red Raider Football have started their fall practices in preparation for the 2019 campaign on August 2nd.
During the next 22 practices Texas Tech Head Coach Matt Wells and his staff will prepare the team for their first battle on August 31st versus Montana State.
Unlike previous years, we’re getting access to assistant coaches.
The media got a chance to talk to safeties coach Kerry Cooks, Junior Defensive Back Tommy Leggett and Sophomore Receiver Kesean Carter.
I was asked today after looking at the way the team is responding to Coach Wells will my prediction of a 5-6 to 6-6 season change? I can’t say YET!
My WAY TOO EARLY predictions for the 2019 season for Red Raider Football!
I’ll start the prediction train and as any politician would say “would like to revise and extend my remarks at a future time”
Let’s go!
Home vs Montana State – Win by 21. If the Red Raider can’t win vs Montana State it’s going to be a long painful journey.
Home vs UTEP – Win by 21. UTEP has no QB, unhealthy o-line, no receivers, no defense
Away vs Arizona – Lose by 3. Kevin Sumlin should suck on that L but if TTU chokes on the road like they have done in the past this is going to be a LONNNNG season.
Away vs OU – Lose by 28. Any other result would make me really happy. But the last time the Red Raiders won in Norman was 2011 under Tommy Tupperwear. OU is stacked again…
The most crucial game of the year comes on October 5th. This is the season maker / breaker. 2 and 2 in my predictions coming to the Cowboys of Xerox State.
Home vs Oklahoma StateĀ – OSU had Texas Tech’s number in Stoolwater until last year. 9 out of the last 10 years OSU has made TTU its bitch. IF the Red Raiders win this game, they will be bowl eligible. If they don’t they continue on the trail of tears with games vs Baylor and Iowa State before they get to a winnable game vs Kansas
Away at Baylor – LOSS – Yes, back to Waco we go and I just don’t see it in Wacko Waco.
2nd Half of the Season
Home vs Iowa State – LOSS – The first loss of the home slate and it will be the team that will face OU in the Big 12 Championship game (you heard it here first)
Away vs. Kansas – WIN -Sorry, you are barely a basketball school Jayhawks, suck on that L
Away vs. West Virginia – Win – West Virginia’s cupboard is bare. Leave Morgantown smiling!
Home vs TCU – WIN- TCU would LOVE to come into Lubbock and spoil the Red Raiders season, but they won’t (Unless they lose to OSU, then they lose to TCU here also)
Home vs Kansas State – WIN – Kansas State would love new football coach Chris Klieman with his championship experience from North Dakota State to take a win home. BUT Lubbock is a totally different place to come if you’ve never been here before and K-State isn’t rated near the bottom of the Big 12 because Bill Snyder isn’t there anymore. It’s because they really aren’t that good.
Away vs Texas – Loss – I would love to watch Tom Herman check his teams hydration level after a Red Raider victory, like after previous losses vs Maryland. But Alan Bowman would have to turn in a magical performance in a place where the refs know where they can pick up their bonus bag of cash after the game.
So right now I have the team 6-5 with 1 game too close to call. If they win OSU, they end up 7-5, if they don’t they will be no better than 5-7.
