Texas Tech men’s basketball team was ranked in the top ten at #8 in this week’s Associated Press Top 25 poll released on Monday. This is the highest ranking for the Red Raiders since 1996 during the James Dickey administration. I really enjoy this team and this team reminds me of those Red Raiders. What’s the best attribute of this Red Raider team? Depth!
A glimpse at this team:
They have the skill players to tackle any challenge. You need to cover big guys, say hi to Norense Odiase and Tommy Hamilton IV.
You need a player to go crazy and score at will, Senior Keenan Evans is your man.
How about players to slam the rock down at any point? Zach Smith and Zhaire Smith.
What about youth? Zhaire Smith, Jarret Culver and Davide Moretti.
Leadership from Justin Gray, Brandone Francis and Niem Stevenson and the future with Josh Webster, Avery Benson, Andrew Sorrells, and Parker Hicks.
How many Freshmen do you know have their own talk show for the team while they are injured?
Top ten is merely the start for this team.
The potential is amazing.
Right now in the Rockin’ 25 they are ranked #9 and they could go up further, but don’t think the Big 12 won’t get harder and harder. Their record of 14-1 will probably continue to astonish others but as long as they believe in their process this team has a potential of a future we will all enjoy.
They are young and will make young mistakes but this team is nothing like any team I’ve ever seen in the 26 years I’ve watched Red Raider Basketball. Top ten?
And that’s what is so exciting. I said with Tony Patelis and Erik Haslam at the beginning of the season with limited injuries I could see a return to the NCAA’s. But with each game I see the potential of a Sweet Sixteen visit.
Depending strictly on matchups and where the Red Raiders are sent if they make the NCAA’s but this could be an Elite Eight team. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves…
Let’s play Oklahoma first!
