Chris Cornell, solo artist and singer for Soundgarden, Audioslave and Temple of the Dog, has died.  He was 52.

“The cause of death has been determined as hanging by suicide,” an official statement reads from the Wayne County Medical Examiner’s Office.  “A full autopsy report has not yet been completed. There is no additional information at this time.”

Cornell had been in Detroit for a Soundgarden tour as part of an 18 city tour and had tweeted:

A representative reported that he had passed late Wednesday night and asked for privacy.

“His wife Vicky and family were shocked to learn of his sudden and unexpected passing, and they will be working closely with the medical examiner to determine the cause,” said the rep. “They would like to thank his fans for his continuous love and loyalty, and ask that their privacy be respected at this time.”

His encore was Led Zeppelin’s “In My Time of Dying,” woven into Slaves & Bulldozers
