The first annual Lubbock Wines and Vines Festival will be held Friday, Sept. 28 and Saturday, Sept. 29.
Listen to win your tickets!
Thirteen wineries from across Texas will be coming to McPherson Cellars to provide wine tastings and sell their wines and merchandise. Also, The High Plains Grape Growers Association will have a booth at the event showcasing the grape growing and harvesting that is being done in the high plains region. Tickets will be 20 dollars for one day and 30 dollars for two days.
Buying a ticket allows visitors to taste the wines each winery will be bringing and enjoy the music playing. There will also be food vendors at the event. All proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to the Texas Wine and Grape Foundation. For an additional charge, visitors can buy wine by the glass or by the bottle from the represented wineries.
On Friday, Sept. 28, the event will begin at 3 p.m. at McPherson Cellars. Wineries will be set up in the events center and also in the parking lots connected to the building. A music stage, donated by The Overton Hotel, will also be set up outside in the parking lot. From 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. Bo Garza will be playing on the stage. From 5 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. a pastry chef competition will be going on and will be viewable by visitors.
At 7 p.m., the festival will be hosting the Hub City Chefs Competition. Local chefs from Lubbock restaurants will compete in the Iron Chef inspired event and will have 35 minutes to prepare two identical plates of food using the ingredients in identical mystery boxes. There will be a pantry of common ingredients provided to the chefs, and they can also bring one ingredient of their choosing to incorporate into their dish. Judging will be conducted by noted culinary experts and one “surprise local judge” who will be randomly selected from the audience. Each chef will have their two plates prepared at the end of the time period, and then one will be judged on taste and the other one judged on presentation. The winner of the competition will be awarded the title “Hub City Master Chef.” Go Texan will be providing the food for the competition, as well as 1500 pounds of shrimp for the visitors’ enjoyment to pair with the wine. This portion of the festival will last until 9 p.m.
From 9 p.m. until 10 p.m. the Austin-based salsa band, El Tule, will be playing.
On Saturday, Sept. 29, McPherson Cellars Tasting Room will open at 11 a.m. The festival will begin at 12 p.m. and last until 10 p.m. Again, all the wineries will be hosting tastings and selling wine and merchandise. Different bands will be playing throughout the day. Alma Quartet will be playing at 12 p.m. until 3 p.m. Following them, El Tule will be performing from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. Country singer Hayden Hughes will be playing from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The jazz and western swing band, Easy Does It, will end the night from 8 p.m. until 10 p.m.
McPherson Cellars is located at 1615 Texas Ave., Lubbock, TX 79401
